Just like I said...

So, true to form and to prove the point I made in our last post about our current record "Cyber Suburban Electro Rock Circus" continuing to have a life of its own and not "dying" here is the latest five(5) star review from amazon.com:

"JoyFocus releases another fantastic Electronic Rock/Pop album, "Cyber Suburban Electro Rock Circus." JoyFocus is comprised of 2 talented artists, musician Rikk Currence and vocalist Holly Joy and together they bring to life a richly textured collection of melodic songs. Opening up the album, "Audrey Is Gone," you are instantly drawn to the sweet and charming vocals while the searing guitar gives you an edgy Rock tonality. Another song, "Grey Day My Way (war of me)," features stirring synth strings and Electronic soundscapes swirling around the shimmering vocals and creates a magnetic melody. You will like their re-make of "Here Comes The Rain Again," as this song features all the dynamic synth sounds of the original and irresistible vocals. Discover the talents of the duo JoyFocus and their outstanding Electronic Rock/Pop music on the wonderful CD, "Cyber Suburban Electro Rock Circus."

Notes from The Studio
Nov 13, 2011
This weekend has been a whirlwind of recording activity for the new record. I've spent the better half of the last 48 hours re working parts rhythm parts and tweaking drum sounds. All of this, of course, in an effort to start recording Holly's vocals in early January.

FYI, the working title for this album is (drum roll please)....

"Semi Retro Multi Soul Rebellion"

If things progress the way we hope, we should look to have the record out in mid July 2012. Obviously sometimes life takes over, and time frames change, but we're feeling pretty good about this one.

"Rikk, why the #$&% has it taken so long to record the follow up to your last record Cyber Suburban Electro Rock Circus?"

Great question! Please allow me to retort.

There are a number of reasons it's taken so long between records, and then again, even with the aforementioned "reasons", there is also a component of "it takes as long as it takes" that I always adhere to when making music. I don't rush my art. I know, even as I typed that I felt like a bourgeois, elitist art snob, but hey, it is what it is and my music is my art. I take pride in every power chord, every ridiculously staked harmony vocal and all the other overblown details that make the JoyFocus sound what it is.

However, in addition to my self centered musical theologies, there have been a few unexpected events that have prolonged my already lengthy process of making new music.

The first being the sudden debilitation and subsequent death of my father earlier this year. My dad lost his battle to lung cancer on April 19th 2011. As if that doesn't suck enough, the six months leading up to his demise were as equally trying and brutal to endure as his passing. So as you can imagine it's taken some time to heal and come to grips with my new life as an adult orphan.

The second reason for the great delay is actually a cool one..."....Cyber Suburban Electro Rock Circus" (our last record) just won't die! Every time we think "okay, time to move on", we get a press request, distribution opportunity, licensing request or even tour opportunity from somewhere in the world in support of that record. It's been crazy, but like I said, a good kind of crazy.

In any instance, this is just an update to let you know we're not slackers. We're actually the opposite - we're perfectionists. We're working hard on the new record, and we hope you'll hear all that hard work when it's done.

So for now, back to the Pro Tools rig, Pearl E pro live kit and Cadillac green Gretsch guitar that are serving as the current tools for musical creation.

We'll talk soon,

Rikk
